About the position

The Learning & Development Specialist is a per diem role focused on delivering training programs and professional development activities within the Allegheny County Department of Human Services Office of Behavioral Health. This position emphasizes experiential adult learning techniques and requires flexibility in scheduling, particularly during training weeks. The role involves assessing learner needs, facilitating training sessions, and contributing to the continuous improvement of training content and delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver a full range of MHP training programs and professional development activities using experiential adult learning techniques.
  • Assess learning styles of participants and balance individual and collective learner needs.
  • Prepare effectively with co-facilitators to deliver training content.
  • Represent the Institute@MHP at various conferences, trainings, and seminars.
  • Provide general education to stakeholders on peer support and recovery principles.
  • Participate in the recruitment of constituents for MHP training programs.
  • Support peer leadership development by attending stakeholder meetings as required by contract agreements.
  • Facilitate training assessments and provide feedback for instructional practices and content updates.
  • Proctor course exams to ensure validity and integrity of the testing process.
  • Monitor participant learning during training and take action to improve competence.

Requirements

  • Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Human Services, Education, or related field.
  • 3 years' experience in psychiatric rehabilitation/behavioral health/human services settings.
  • 3 years' experience as a classroom trainer/organizational facilitator/instructional designer or a combination of these roles.
  • Experience developing and facilitating trainings in an adult learning setting.
  • Experience facilitating training virtually in a remote environment.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the Behavioral Health system in Pennsylvania.
  • Computer skills including desktop computing, e-mail, time sheet management, and electronic health records.
  • Knowledge of Learning Management Systems (Canvas preferred) and virtual meeting platforms (Google Meet, Zoom).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, interpersonal relationships, attention to detail, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to modify interpersonal approach to fit the style/needs of others.
  • Valid driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Fluency in Spanish.
  • Certification as a Certified Peer Specialist and WRAP Facilitator in Pennsylvania.
