About the position

The Learning & Development Specialist at Deer Valley Resort is responsible for managing comprehensive training and development programs aimed at enhancing the skills, knowledge, and performance of all resort employees. This role is crucial in ensuring that training initiatives align with the resort's strategic goals, fostering a culture of exceptional service and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Model the culture by embodying the Deer Valley Difference through exceptional service and genuine care.
  • Coordinate with company leadership to create a structured learning strategy that supports organizational objectives.
  • Develop and implement specific training programs to support staff development and growth, focusing on frontline leaders and management skills.
  • Produce training materials, manuals, or documentation as needed.
  • Partner with resort departments to curate training content and ensure consistency in training methods.
  • Lead orientation efforts for new employees, setting standards and expectations.
  • Coordinate with corporate L&D teams to support the year-round performance evaluation cycle and conduct seasonal performance evaluations.
  • Help build individual development plans by identifying skill gaps in partnership with department managers.
  • Assist in designing and implementing employee surveys, analyzing results, and planning actions to improve the working environment.
  • Design evaluation metrics to assess the effectiveness of development efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Education, Business Administration, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in learning and development, training coordination, or human resources, preferably in the hospitality or ski industry.
  • Strong understanding of adult learning principles and training methodologies.
  • Proven ability to create engaging training content and deliver presentations effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage and inspire employees at all levels.
  • Ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with learning management systems (LMS) and e-learning tools.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various departments and adjust to dynamic, seasonal business needs.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of ski resort operations is desirable, but not necessary.
  • Passion for lifting and building up others.
