About the position

The Learning & Development Specialist at UCLA will play a pivotal role in enhancing the ongoing learning and development of IT staff within the university. This position is designed to assess the development needs of the IT workforce and to create, design, and deliver tailored programs and development content that align with the university's mission. The Specialist will be responsible for evaluating the success of development plans and ensuring that employees are able to maximize their learning opportunities. This includes designing and delivering e-learning courses, workshops, and other training formats, as well as assisting managers in developing their team members effectively. In addition to these responsibilities, the Specialist will be tasked with designing learning paths that facilitate the upskilling of employees through defined career tracks. A significant aspect of this role will involve the design, build, and deployment of the ITS Academy, which aims to provide structured learning opportunities for IT staff. The Specialist will collaborate cross-functionally with subject matter experts and managers to identify key learning areas and deliver relevant opportunities that respond to the rapidly evolving technology landscape. The impact of this role extends beyond individual development; it is crucial for enhancing UCLA's operations and culture. By enabling UCLA IT to attract, retain, and develop its staff, the Specialist will contribute to the institution's academic, research, and service mission. Responsibilities

  • Assess development needs of the IT workforce.
  • Create, design, and deliver tailored learning programs and development content.
  • Evaluate the success of development plans and learning opportunities.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience in learning and development, information technology, human resources, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in creating and executing professional development and onboarding curricula.
  • Five or more years of experience in learning and development, information technology, or human resources (preferred).
  • Experience in complex higher education environments, particularly in large public universities (preferred).
  • Thorough knowledge of learning and development best practices in an IT organization.
  • Strong analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations.
  • In-depth knowledge of learning management systems (LMS) and e-learning tools suitable for IT environments.
  • Ability to handle difficult situations effectively and demonstrate active listening and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of conveying technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to establish and advance positive working relationships with team members and stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills to balance competing priorities and support concurrent projects.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to make decisions with integrity.
