About the position

The Learning Development Specialist is responsible for creating engaging learning materials and coordinating various development programs within the Bank of Hawaii. This role involves utilizing instructional design techniques to develop both digital and in-person training content, managing corporate-wide initiatives, and supporting career development activities for employees.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, develops, coordinates, and administers assigned development programs.
  • Assists with identifying external vendors for program development.
  • Creates developmental plans and tracks progress of program participants.
  • Conducts regular performance evaluation checkpoints and facilitates events and developmental programs.
  • Consults with lines of business to develop specific training programs.
  • Develops programming for mentors as required by the program.
  • Creates e-learning and ILT content using various multimedia elements.
  • Delivers Core Curriculum and New Hire Orientation training as needed.
  • Conducts periodic reviews and quality checks of educational digital content.
  • Leads or participates in corporate-wide initiatives and creates project plans.
  • Partners with business clients and project teams to support training services.
  • Conducts needs assessments and evaluates training program design and delivery.
  • Manages vendors and negotiates contracts for training services.
  • Develops budgets and monitors expenses for employee development programs.
  • Coordinates and creates policies for external programs like Tuition Assistance and Professional Certification programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience for Learning & Development Specialist II or 4-5 years for Specialist III.
  • Proficiency with content development tools such as Adobe Suite and E-Learning Software (Articulate).
  • Knowledge of instructional design, needs assessment, and performance measurement.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills, including facilitation and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated project management, consulting, and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple programs with changing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to push/lift up to 25 lbs and provide own transportation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the banking industry or similar corporate environment.
  • Familiarity with adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies.
