About the position

The Learning & Development Specialist at the Kansas Department for Children and Families is responsible for delivering, evaluating, revising, and developing training curriculum and workshops for statewide Prevention and Protection Services staff. This role emphasizes the importance of continuous learning and improvement in child welfare practices, ensuring that staff are equipped with the latest knowledge and skills to support families effectively. The position involves collaboration with various stakeholders and requires a strong commitment to the agency's mission of serving individuals and families in the community.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver, evaluate, revise, develop, coordinate and/or assess curriculum, workshops and other learning experiences for statewide Prevention and Protection Services (PPS) and contractor staff.
  • Update training curriculum based on changes to policy, practice models, and the latest evidence and research in the child welfare field.
  • Participate and/or facilitate regional and statewide workgroups and events.
  • Provide learning workshops to organizations or community groups.
  • Assess abuse and neglect allegations with Kansas families, utilizing practice approaches in the Kansas Practice Model.

Requirements

  • At least a four-year degree in a Human Services or Behavioral Sciences field.
  • Two years of experience in developing and delivering training materials and presentations.
  • One year of experience within a child welfare agency.
  • One year of experience in delivering workshops and/or presentations.

Nice-to-haves

  • One year of experience with Child Protective Services in Kansas.
  • Licensed through the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Professional Counseling.
