About the position

The Learning Experience Designer at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College is responsible for enhancing educational experiences through innovative instructional design and project-based learning methodologies. This role involves collaboration with faculty to redesign courses, facilitate training workshops, and develop best practices aimed at improving student retention and engagement, particularly in relation to the Strengthening Institutions Program (SIP) grant. The ideal candidate will advocate for learners and create impactful learning experiences in a digitally-enhanced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit SIP faculty cohorts for training on project-based learning.
  • Collaborate with SIP faculty to redesign curriculum and instructional materials using project-based learning techniques.
  • Assess learner needs and engage in curriculum and content development with technology integration.
  • Create high-quality assessment tools and plans for formative and summative assessment.
  • Participate in quality assurance reviews and ongoing analysis of course performance.
  • Track and report SIP project milestones to the SIP Steering Committee and stakeholders.
  • Conduct training sessions for faculty on effective instructional design and project-based learning best practices.
  • Develop learning resources to support faculty in implementing project-based learning strategies.
  • Help faculty create model course shells incorporating project-based learning strategies.
  • Conduct analyses of student needs and course performance.
  • Maintain currency in learning sciences and instructional design principles.
  • Provide ongoing support to faculty during course implementation.
  • Create and maintain a repository of instructional design resources.
  • Identify institutions with model project-based learning programs for faculty visits.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the college to achieve SIP grant goals.
  • Perform duties independently and exercise initiative in various situations.
  • Maintain high professional standards and participate in college activities.
  • Represent the college at conferences and seminars as appropriate.
  • Work flexible hours and complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Upgrade skills through employee development training.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Instructional Design, Learning Design and Technology, Learning Experience Design, or closely related field.
  • Three years of experience in project-based learning, instructional practices, or instructional design principles.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated effective project management and communication ability.
  • Proficiency with learning management systems, project management software, and Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional strategies.
  • Advanced time management and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff.

Nice-to-haves

  • Doctoral degree in a related field.
  • Quality Matters (QM) Certification or similar certification in instructional design.
  • Experience in a community college environment.
  • Experience with educational program development.
