About the position

The Learning Experience Designer Senior at the University of Michigan is responsible for leading professional development opportunities in online pedagogical practices and creating quality online learning experiences. This role involves collaborating with faculty and administrative units to develop resources for online and hybrid courses, facilitating learning experiences, and promoting excellence in faculty interactions throughout the design process.

Responsibilities

  • Lead professional development opportunities in multiple modalities for teaching online.
  • Develop stand-alone resources to assist instructors in developing and teaching online and hybrid courses.
  • Identify and collaborate with relevant experts to create resources addressing discipline-specific pedagogical needs.
  • Develop and customize online teaching content according to academic unit needs.
  • Provide consultations and develop learning experiences about teaching online.
  • Coordinate and facilitate cohort-based learning experiences for instructors.
  • Transition faculty from the design phase to the teaching phase in online course development.
  • Develop and facilitate a community of practice for instructors teaching online and hybrid courses.
  • Consult with programs to coordinate educational opportunities for faculty in the online space.
  • Partner with CAI's Marketing and Market Strategy team to develop content for the Online Teaching website.
  • Be a liaison for the faculty experience throughout the design process.
  • Promote excellence in the faculty experience through evaluation of design processes.
  • Identify milestones and methods for measuring faculty experience and sentiment.
  • Implement feedback mechanisms to refine services and improve faculty experience.
  • Provide recommendations for service-oriented improvements during project lifecycles.
  • Develop channels for increasing visibility of faculty contributions to academic innovation.
  • Lead complex course design projects focusing on learner-centered instructional strategies.
  • Collaborate with faculty and team members to design high-quality online and hybrid courses.
  • Apply instructional design methods and learning theories to course design, ensuring equity and accessibility.
  • Support partner and team member relationships and project success.
  • Define a scope of work in response to program requirements and project partners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education, educational psychology, learning sciences, instructional design, or educational technology.
  • 3 or more years of experience in instructional design or related fields.
  • Experience with learning theories, instructional design methods, and learner-centered design principles.
  • Experience collaborating with various instructor roles in a higher education environment.
  • Experience teaching in an online environment.
  • Expertise in assessing project outcomes and making recommendations for improvement.
  • Experience using online education platforms and tools (e.g., Canvas, Coursera, edX).
  • Experience working in a collaborative team environment.
  • Demonstrated initiative and service-oriented attitude.
