About the position

Office of Academic and Learning Innovation (ALI) at CU Boulder is encouraging applications for the Learning Experience Designer! This is a full-time position that reports to a Senior Learning Experience Designer in the Office of Academic and Learning Innovation (ALI). As a Learning Experience Designer, this position works directly with faculty, student assistants, and platform managers, as well as with teaching and learning technologies, to design and produce creative, meaningful, and innovative learning experiences for both non-credit and for-credit online course offerings and programs. The incumbent consults with faculty to adapt and iterate on existing course materials for online delivery, engaging in course design from ideation to development to analytics, and building brand new next-generation learning experiences from the ground up. This job is largely remote, with occasional onsite meetings required.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with faculty as a pedagogical and instructional consultant to design and build student-centered online courses and programs.
  • Support the development of technical assessments for code-based learning experiences.
  • Track and communicate development status and blockers with collaborators.
  • Lead maintenance and iteration of existing courses and programs.
  • Engage with student and team member feedback.
  • Apply quality assurance methods for continuous improvement.
  • Produce and implement actionable improvement plans.
  • Research and implement established and emergent educational tools and technologies to support learning outcomes and teaching strategies.
  • Create and maintain course development resources, templates, and trainings for faculty, staff, and student assistants.
  • Perform additional job duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience may substitute.
  • One year of job-related experience providing support to faculty designing and developing courses for online or on-campus delivery.
  • One year of job-related experience working collaboratively in teams or small groups with experience designing and/or leading projects to completion.
  • One year job-related experience with at least one LMS (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, Desire2Learn, etc.)

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university or a combination of undergraduate education and relevant professional experience.
  • Experience teaching at an institution of higher education, especially online courses.
  • Demonstrated experience advocating for, developing, consulting on, and/or implementing creative and thoughtful pedagogical methods.
  • Ability to think holistically about learning experience design as a process of engagement between instructors, students, designers, technologies, platforms, and pedagogies.
  • Demonstrated experience researching and/or implementing new educational tools and technologies.
  • Experience creating courses on the Coursera platform.
  • Ability to stay up to date on research and scholarship in the fields of educational technology, higher education pedagogy, and learning sciences.
  • Ability to cultivate peer networks and stay engaged with the field through presentations, writings, and other outreach efforts.
  • Design and media-related skills including web publication, graphic design and multimedia production, as well as basic HTML.
  • Ability to build and implement systems and practices, and remain nimble to iterate, revise, and evolve as needs and circumstances change.
  • Ability to seek opportunities for capacity building and knowledge sharing.
  • Knows the value of rubrics, checklists, and standard processes but can think and work beyond them.
  • Ability to listen carefully, collaborate authentically, and learn constantly.
  • Experience with hybrid remote and in-person work.
