About the position

The Learning & Organizational Development Specialist II at Midland States Bank is primarily focused on the instructional design, implementation, and facilitation of Learning and Organizational Development (LOD) programming. This role requires a strong understanding of the bank's strategic goals and initiatives to identify and deliver relevant learning opportunities across the organization. The specialist will utilize authoring software, such as Articulate, to create eLearning content and will demonstrate advanced skills in facilitating instructor-led training (ILT) both in-person and via virtual platforms like MS TEAMS and WebEx. A successful candidate will exhibit advanced proficiency in communication, emotional intelligence, training delivery, and learning management software (Cornerstone). The position demands an adaptable servant leader and culture champion who consistently operates under a growth mindset. The specialist will be responsible for the development and delivery of various training programs aimed at upskilling and reskilling employees, serving as a project manager to bring programs from conceptualization to maintenance. Additionally, the role involves assessing and recommending strategic opportunities for distance learning and computer/web-based training, maintaining and evaluating recent technologies that support learning and development goals, and collaborating with subject matter experts on content development. The specialist will also be responsible for planning, coordinating, conducting, and evaluating training programs for target audiences, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, and maintaining positive employee relations within the organization. Occasional travel for training and team meetings is required, along with the possibility of working in a Midland office to support collaboration and customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver a variety of programming that results in the upskilling/reskilling of employees.
  • Serve as a project manager to bring training programs from conceptualization to maintenance.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of job-specific training, both in-person and virtual.
  • Assess and recommend strategic opportunities for distance learning and computer/web-based training.
  • Maintain and continuously evaluate recent technology/tools that support learning and development goals.
  • Conduct vendor research, communication, and evaluation.
  • Deliver and facilitate programming from Midland States Bank's LOD portfolio.
  • Plan, coordinate, conduct, and evaluate training programs for target audiences.
  • Design plans, procedures, and processes for the administration of training, monitoring employee progress and program effectiveness.
  • Leverage new developments, methods, practices, and techniques in the learning and organizational development fields.
  • Partner and collaborate with subject matter specialists on content development and delivery.
  • Assist in maintaining positive employee relations in the organization.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, including the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Training and Development, Education, Business, Communications, or related field.
  • Three to five years of training experience in assessment, course design, development, delivery, and facilitation in multiple learning modalities.
  • Experience in measurement tools and reporting for employee and leadership development programs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presenting to key stakeholders and large training groups.
  • Ability and willingness to travel occasionally to support training needs in other locations (15-20% of time).
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to influence and lead without formal authority.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with gamification in training programs.
  • Familiarity with additional learning management systems beyond Cornerstone.
  • Knowledge of banking regulations and compliance requirements.
