About the position

The Learning & Organizational Development Specialist at the University of Washington's Housing & Food Services (HFS) is responsible for enhancing the quality and effectiveness of training programs for HFS employees. This role involves collaborating with human resources and departmental leaders to identify training needs, develop curriculum, and implement training delivery methods that align with adult learning principles and equity practices. The specialist will also manage the HFS HR SharePoint site and lead initiatives to foster an inclusive workplace culture.

Responsibilities

  • Apply an understanding of equity, antiracism, learning theory, adult learning principles, and universal design to all aspects of work.
  • Gain a thorough working knowledge of each functional unit to support the design, delivery, and assessment of effective training programs.
  • Engage departmental leaders to ascertain training needs and support the development of training plans.
  • Work with staff responsible for training to apply best practices in training development and delivery.
  • Develop standards for training development and delivery.
  • Provide learning opportunities for staff responsible for training and those seeking to develop this competency.
  • Utilize a blended approach of training delivery techniques including face-to-face, online, and experiential methods.
  • Develop tools and resources for staff to support training and exploration of diversity, equity, and inclusion topics.
  • Conduct assessments to determine training efficacy and coordinate necessary adjustments.
  • Develop reports, metrics, and systems for information sharing and analysis.
  • Write, edit, and develop informational materials independently.
  • Conduct training as needed and work one-on-one with staff for performance improvement.
  • Manage and update the HFS HR SharePoint site, ensuring it meets the needs of all users.
  • Lead the HFS Training Consortium to enable collaboration across units.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to identify training and equity needs.
  • Serve as a consultant to assess learning and equity needs.
  • Coordinate and facilitate HFS Collaboration Meetings.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in education, human resources, or a related field.
  • 2 years of relevant work experience in an office or academic setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with SharePoint management and development.
  • Familiarity with adult learning principles and training methodologies.
  • Knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion best practices.
