About the position

This position is responsible for the design, development, and delivery of the Lease Accounting strategy and process performance outcomes for LyondellBasell's global organization. The role includes direct leadership of the Lease Accounting shared service team and accountability for the end-to-end process design and performance for defined Lease Accounting process elements, ensuring compliance with US GAAP and IFRS standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor direct reports in delivering efficient and effective Lease Accounting solutions in accordance with corporate policies and legislative requirements.
  • Manage lease determination and classification conclusions under US GAAP and IFRS.
  • Oversee the lease accelerator tool, including master data updates and accuracy of calculations.
  • Build, maintain, and update global corporate lease accounting policies and asset tracking/management procedures.
  • Reconcile lease accounting data from the lease accelerator module to the ERP system.
  • Develop and maintain management reporting and KPIs for the lease accounting function.
  • Prepare and maintain quarterly and annual lease accounting reporting packages for regulatory filings.
  • Act as the focal point for internal and external audits relating to lease accounting.
  • Drive effective cross-functional teams to establish continuous improvement opportunities in the Lease Accounting process.
  • Manage the hiring process within the agreed headcount budget and develop a talent pool.
  • Ensure performance management processes are embedded and delivered within timelines.
  • Establish and maintain a process to identify issues and perform root cause analysis.
  • Document current state identifying cross-functional disconnects and interface issues.
  • Identify and prioritize process improvement initiatives.
  • Final approver for all SEC and IFRS lease accounting-related information before submission.
  • Create and track process performance indicators and metrics.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain appropriate accounting procedures and process controls in compliance with Sarbanes Oxley and corporate policies.
  • Establish and monitor a process budget to ensure appropriate allocation of resources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Typically seven (7) years of relevant lease accounting/finance experience.
  • Previous public accounting experience required.
  • Supervisory experience in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong technical knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS accounting principles.
  • Experience in optimizing or redesigning existing processes and driving continuous improvements.
  • Experience with Internal Controls and SOX/404 requirements.
  • Strong computer skills with advanced knowledge of financial systems and software.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Big 4 Public Accounting experience preferred.
  • Finance Professional certification (e.g. CPA, CIMA) is highly desirable.
  • Experience with SAP, Lease Accelerator, and One Stream preferred.
  • Knowledge of configuration, design, and testing of SAP asset module and/or project systems module.
  • Demonstrated experience operating in a metric-driven environment.
