About the position

The Lease Accounting Manager will oversee the Lease Accounting team within the RE&D Finance department at Apple, responsible for managing the accounting and reporting of real estate leases globally. This role involves collaboration with various business partners to ensure compliance with ASC 842 and accurate financial reporting for a portfolio of over 1600 leases. The manager will supervise financial analysts, ensure SOX compliance, and lead system and process improvements related to lease accounting.

Responsibilities

• Manage the Lease Accounting team and oversee lease accounting and reporting for the global real estate portfolio.
• Ensure accurate reporting of leases in accordance with ASC 842 for P&L and balance sheet.
• Collaborate with Corporate and Retail Real Estate, Global Business Solution teams, and other cross-functional partners.
• Perform senior level review of lease assessments and validation of lease accounting treatment.
• Monitor SOX compliance and oversee SOX testing activities.
• Coordinate and monitor team activities in preparing lease analyses and reporting.
• Assist with system and process improvements impacting the Lease Accounting team.
• Support the Lease Payments team in resolving abstraction-related payment issues.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional finance experience.
• 2+ years of managerial experience.
• BA/BS in Accounting or related field.
• Strong understanding of US GAAP.
• Excellent analytical and Excel modeling skills.
• Effective written, verbal, and presentation skills.

Nice-to-haves

• SOX compliance experience.
• Detailed knowledge of New Lease Accounting (ASC 842).
• Experience with enterprise software systems and databases (e.g., SAP and Tririga).
• System implementation and project/process improvement experience.
