About the position

The John Stewart Company is a full-service housing management, development, and consulting organization that has been committed to providing high-quality service in the affordable housing sector since 1978. The Leasing Agent position is integral to our mission, working under the direction of the Property Manager to lease units and provide exceptional customer assistance to our clients and residents. This role requires a strong ability to relate well to people, exercise good judgment, and maintain discretion when interacting with residents, vendors, and co-workers. The Leasing Agent will be responsible for ensuring compliance with various regulatory requirements while also contributing to the marketing and leasing of units. In this position, the Leasing Agent will process and maintain accurate resident files at move-in, ensuring adherence to established regulatory guidelines. They will market units according to an approved marketing plan that considers all federal, state, local, and regulatory requirements. The Leasing Agent will also ensure compliance with resident selection programs, including HUD, TCAC, Home Program, RHCP, CAL HFA, and AHP. Scheduling move-ins, preparing lease agreements, and processing resident program re-certifications and renewals in a timely manner are also key responsibilities. Additionally, the Leasing Agent will prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports as assigned and perform any additional administrative, compliance, marketing, and lease-up duties as required.

Responsibilities

  • Process, complete and maintain accurate resident files at move-in within established regulatory guidelines.
  • Market units in accordance with an approved marketing plan which considers all federal, state, local and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure resident selection program compliance with HUD, TCAC, Home Program, RHCP, CAL HFA, AHP, etc.
  • Schedule move-ins and prepare lease agreements and other related documents.
  • Prepare daily, weekly and monthly reports as assigned.
  • Process resident program re-certifications and renewals in a timely manner.
  • Perform any additional administrative, compliance, marketing and lease-up duties assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor's degree and management experience is desirable.
  • Must have a valid Driver License.
  • Basic mathematical skills with excellent reading, writing and communication skills in English.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • 1-2 years leasing experience with HUD/Tax Credit properties.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Boston Post software is a plus.
  • Experience in affordable housing sector.
