About the position

The Leave & Absence Specialist at BECU plays a vital role in supporting employees during significant life events by coordinating leave benefits and ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations. This position fosters a culture of care and support, allowing team members to focus on their personal needs while receiving the necessary guidance and resources. The role involves collaboration with various departments, managing documentation, and contributing to process improvements to enhance employee experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate Leave Benefits by collaborating with payroll and stakeholders to ensure accurate time coding and payment for employees on leave.
  • Support Employee Inquiries by answering questions from managers and employees regarding leave plans and policies with clarity and empathy.
  • Assist in Accommodation Administration by managing requests and applying knowledge of the ADA and relevant state laws.
  • Manage Documentation for state-specific leave programs, handling appeals and ensuring compliance and accuracy.
  • Develop Educational Resources to inform employees and managers about absence management and leave programs.
  • Drive Process Improvement by participating in projects aimed at enhancing employee experiences and operational efficiency.
  • Perform Additional Duties as needed to contribute to the overall success of the team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work or educational experience.
  • Minimum three years of progressive responsibility in a professional HR role with specific experience in leave administration.
  • Experience with federal and state leave laws and regulations, including FMLA and ADA.
  • Experience administrating a Leave Plan and Program.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Excel, and SharePoint.
  • Effective communication skills at all organizational levels and with external vendors and regulatory agencies.
  • Experience consulting and influencing business leaders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, establishing effective working relationships.
  • High level of discretion and judgment, exercising confidentiality in sensitive situations.
  • Demonstrated organizational, time-management, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
