About the position

The Leave Coordinator in the Human Resources - Employee Relations department is responsible for facilitating leave requests and accommodations in compliance with federal and state laws, including the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This role serves as a point of contact for all City departments regarding leave inquiries and ensures adherence to relevant policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate leave requests and accommodations in accordance with federal and state laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Serve as a point of contact for all City departments on leave inquiries.
  • Assist with various tasks related to Labor/Employee Relations and City policy compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide guidance to departments regarding issues related to disabilities and accommodations.
  • Prepare written correspondence in response to requests for leave.
  • Review and provide input on documents related to internal leave management processes.
  • Interpret, explain, and enforce policies and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality of employee medical documentation and files.
  • Develop and conduct training on leave management processes.
  • Evaluate, research, and administer employee requests for workplace accommodations.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in public administration, business administration, or social sciences.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience related to coordinating and supporting leave programs or similar programs that includes researching and applying federal and state program compliance requirements.
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
  • Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.
