About the position

As the Leave of Absence and Accommodations Specialist at MathWorks, you will be responsible for administering leave requests and accommodations in compliance with various laws including the FMLA, MA PFML, and ADA. This role involves managing the entire process of leave administration, from communication with staff to reviewing medical documentation and making approval recommendations. You will also serve as a subject matter expert and consultant to HR and management, ensuring accurate record-keeping and compliance with legal requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Administer leave requests and accommodations under FMLA, MA PFML, ADA, and other applicable laws.
  • Communicate with staff regarding their leave needs and responsibilities.
  • Review medical documentation and follow up with healthcare providers as necessary.
  • Make approval recommendations for leaves, extensions, and accommodations.
  • Coordinate and approve return from leave, including necessary accommodations.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for leaves and accommodations for HR and management.
  • Administer leave processes within Workday and ensure accurate payroll flow.
  • Engage in the interactive process for determining reasonable accommodations.
  • Maintain accurate records of leave and accommodation requests in compliance with laws.
  • Guide staff in the claim filing process for state leave programs and other claims.
  • Create and analyze reports to identify trends and recommend improvements.
  • Recommend and draft revisions to company leave policies and best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 6 years of professional work experience or a Master's degree with 3 years of professional work experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of leave requirements under FMLA, MA PFML, ADA, and other laws.
  • Experience administering leaves of absence and ADA accommodations.
  • Excellent judgment, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle complex conversations and maintain confidentiality.
  • Experience with HRIS and reporting tools, specifically Workday is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
