About the position

The Sultan School District is seeking a dedicated and skilled individual for the position of Leave Replacement - Maintenance Worker. This long-term substitute role is essential for maintaining the functionality and safety of the district's facilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a wide variety of maintenance and repairs to district facilities and equipment, which includes tasks related to electrical systems, plumbing, and general custodial duties. The position requires a hands-on approach to ensure that all maintenance tasks are completed efficiently and effectively, contributing to a safe and conducive learning environment for students. The Maintenance Worker will engage in various essential job functions, including installing, modifying, maintaining, and repairing interior wiring and cables, as well as electric machines, switches, and controls. The role also involves inspecting electric systems to detect and correct faulty or worn parts, maintaining plumbing fixtures, and performing repairs on a variety of equipment. The worker will be expected to prepare surfaces for painting, perform welding tasks, and carry out general cleaning and custodial services to ensure that the facilities are sanitary and safe for student learning. In addition to technical skills, the position requires effective communication with building administrators, staff, and the public to ensure safety and security. The Maintenance Worker will also be responsible for monitoring heating units, setting up equipment for events, and assisting with emergency cleaning as needed. This role is vital to the operations of the district, and the successful candidate will play a key part in supporting the educational mission of the Sultan School District.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide variety of maintenance and repairs to District facilities and equipment.
  • Install, modify, maintain, and repair interior wiring and cables, connections for electric machines, switches, and controls.
  • Inspect electric systems and equipment to detect and correct faulty or worn parts.
  • Install, maintain, and repair plumbing fixtures and systems, including pipes, drains, and faucets.
  • Prepare and clean surfaces for painting and perform painting tasks as needed.
  • Use and maintain tools of the trades, including welding equipment and hand tools.
  • Clean assigned district facilities to provide a sanitary and safe environment for student learning.
  • Monitor heating units and report any issues to the Maintenance Department.
  • Set up and take down equipment for events and public use of school facilities.
  • Assist teachers, students, and administrators in locating needed equipment and providing emergency cleaning.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in maintenance and repair, including a wide range of building trades.
  • Valid Washington State driver's license.
  • Valid First Aid/CPR card maintained for the duration of the job.
  • Ability to distinguish cleaning chemicals and hazardous chemicals.
  • Knowledge of maintenance safety procedures, including safe lifting techniques.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the construction trades, including carpentry, plumbing, painting, glazing, locksmithing, welding, and electrical work.
  • Skill in the use of tools and equipment of the trades.
  • Ability to operate a computer using district-approved software.
  • Ability to inspect facilities and equipment, diagnose problems, and develop solutions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience dealing with school-aged children preferred.
