About the position

The position is for a Leave Replacement Special Education Teacher at Leonia Middle School for the 2024-2025 School Year. The teacher will work under the supervision of the School Principal and Director of Special Services to enhance the learning experience of students with special needs. This includes implementing district-approved curriculum, documenting teaching and student progress, and addressing specific student needs in a safe and optimal learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessments, testing, and diagnostic examinations of students to identify learning issues and recommend corrective procedures.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, modifying instructional methods to fit individual student needs.
  • Participate in IEP meetings and assist in developing Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) for students.
  • Implement students' IEPs and behavior management plans.
  • Collaborate with grade level and mathematics teachers, IEP team members, and related services staff for student program development.
  • Coordinate with outside agencies and organizations as needed.
  • Coordinate with administrators and other teaching staff to ascertain individual student's abilities and needs.
  • Acquire professional knowledge through seminars, workshops, and research.
  • Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete record-keeping.
  • Encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
  • Select and requisition appropriate books, aids, and other supplies and maintain inventory records.

Requirements

  • New Jersey Certifications as Teacher of Students with Disabilities and Elementary or English School Teacher.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to teaching assignments.
  • Successful prior special education teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.

  • Knowledge of Special Education principles, theories, testing, and methods.
  • Knowledge of differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of data information systems and data analysis.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
