About the position

The Leaves and Workers' Compensation Analyst at the University of California, Irvine plays a crucial role in managing and administering employee benefits related to disability, leave of absence, and workers' compensation. This position requires expertise in applicable laws and regulations, ensuring compliance while providing guidance to employees and managers. The analyst will coordinate programs, educate staff, and handle complex cases that significantly impact both the university and its employees.

Responsibilities

  • Provide subject matter expertise and counsel employees and managers on disability, leave of absence, workers' compensation, and benefit plans.
  • Administer Workers' Compensation benefits for injured employees, ensuring prompt and adequate treatment.
  • Collect information from injured employees and supervisors, discussing cases with attorneys and third-party administrators.
  • Coordinate programs and education regarding workers' compensation and leaves.
  • Manage the leave of absence process, providing consultation and assistance to employees.
  • Collaborate with various departments including workers' compensation, disability management, and labor relations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalent experience/training.
  • Four to five years of progressive experience in benefits, workers' compensation, or leave administration.
  • Thorough knowledge of FMLA, CFRA, PFL, PDL, Workers Comp, Military Leave, ERISA, HIPAA, and applicable state and federal laws.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to handle difficult issues professionally.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Knowledge of computer databases and Windows software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of state laws pertaining to SDI and federal laws governing SSDI.
  • Knowledge of UCI organization, UC policies, procedures, and structure.
  • PHR/SPHR, SHRM/SHRM-CP, or similar credentials preferred.
  • Professional administrative experience in higher education.
