About the position

The Lecturer and Environmental Center Coordinator at McDaniel College is a hybrid role that combines teaching responsibilities in the Environmental Studies Department with the coordination and management of the McDaniel Environmental Center (MEC). This position aims to foster experiential learning and community engagement while promoting sustainable practices. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in environmental education, landscape management, and project management, and will be responsible for overseeing maintenance activities and educational programs at the MEC.

Responsibilities

  • Offer a range of courses in environmental studies, focusing on introductory courses and opportunities to teach upper-level courses.
  • Provide a safe learning environment for students in the field, classroom, and laboratory.
  • Mentor and advise ENV majors and minors.
  • Design and execute a comprehensive property management program in partnership with the Director of Grounds.
  • Coordinate with McDaniel Physical Plant, Grounds, and external contractors on property maintenance needs.
  • Support the McDaniel Gardens Program in maintenance of production spaces.
  • Ensure trails and gathering spaces are safe and accessible for College and community activities.
  • Promote environmentally friendly practices in property maintenance.
  • Maintain an inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies for property maintenance.
  • Collaborate with College faculty, staff, and students for educational visits and community events.
  • Engage with community partners to create experiential learning opportunities.
  • Manage space reservations and property calendar requests.

Requirements

  • Masters' degree in Environmental Science or Studies, Natural Resource Management, Environmental or Landscape Management, Recreation and Parks Management, Applied Ecology, or a related field.
  • Experience with outdoor and/or environmental education or outreach, especially at the high school or college level.
  • Experience in project management and/or landscape or property management preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of sustainable horticultural or landscaping practices, plant identification, and pest management.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
