About the position

The Department of History at Elmhurst University is seeking a Full-time Lecturer in the Atlantic World with a focus on Latin America, starting in August 2025. The role primarily involves teaching eight courses per year, including surveys in world history and Latin America, introductory courses in world geography, and upper-level courses that may be cross-listed with Latino Studies, Gender Studies, and/or Race and Ethnicity Studies. Responsibilities

  • Teach eight courses a year, including surveys in world history and Latin America, an introductory course in world geography, and upper-level courses.
  • Prepare course materials and lectures.
  • Grade assignments and provide feedback to students.
  • Be available to assist students with questions or concerns.
  • Advise students on course registration and academic planning.
  • Support the University's mission, vision, and values.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • PhD in History preferred; ABD candidates considered.
  • Evidence of outstanding teaching or teaching potential.
  • Commitment to creating inclusive learning environments for a diverse student body.
  • Ability to teach in-person courses on Elmhurst University's campus.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience using Learning Management Systems (LMS).
