About the position

The Department of Art, Media, Performance and Design and the Media X Program at the University of the Pacific invite applications for a three-year renewable non-tenure track Lecturer/Instructor position in Animation, Visual Effects, Film Editing, or Game Design. This full-time position is designed for individuals who are passionate about teaching and mentoring students in these creative fields. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate courses, developing innovative course materials, and contributing to the overall educational experience of students in the department. The position will commence on August 15, 2025, and offers an opportunity to engage with a diverse student body in a supportive and collaborative environment. The Department of Art, Media, Performance and Design is committed to excellence in undergraduate education, providing students with a rewarding program that integrates various disciplines within the liberal arts framework. The department offers a BFA degree with concentrations in Art and Graphic Design, as well as a BA degree in Media X, which allows students to explore creative combinations of coursework across multiple fields. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in their area of expertise and a commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable learning environment. In this role, the Lecturer/Instructor will teach a minimum of 24 units per year, which typically equates to 6-7 courses, and will be expected to advise students, participate in departmental service, and contribute to curriculum development. The successful candidate will also mentor students, guiding them on academic and career pathways, and will teach industry-standard software relevant to their specialty. Collaboration with colleagues to enhance interdisciplinary programs and initiatives is also a key aspect of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate courses in Animation, Visual Effects, Film Editing, or Game Design.

Requirements

  • A terminal degree (MFA, PhD, or equivalent) in Animation, Visual Effects, Film Editing, Game Design, or a closely related field.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proven track record of effective teaching at the collegiate level or practice in a professional studio.
  • A strong portfolio of work in visual effects, film editing, or game design.
