About the position

The University of Wisconsin-Stout is seeking a full-time Lecturer in Interior Design/Architecture to join the School of Art & Design starting in August 2025. This position involves teaching undergraduate courses in interior design and architectural drafting, contributing to program assessment and accreditation, and fostering an inclusive learning environment. The role is part of a growing department that emphasizes applied learning and collaboration across disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Teach interior design courses each semester, including introductory, intermediate, and advanced classes, as well as architectural courses for the construction program.
  • Provide student academic advisement and conduct assessment of student learning, contributing to academic program assessment and continuous improvement processes.
  • Demonstrate organizational skills and collegiality in collaboration with faculty.
  • Collaborate with other faculty to maintain and develop course curricula.
  • Foster a rigorous and inclusive learning environment for students.
  • Schedule and maintain office hours and/or online availability for students, including assessment of student learning.
  • Provide grades following the established process and timeline by the registrar.
  • Advance student learning in interior design in alignment with UW-Stout's polytechnic tenets.
  • Participate in the university's online learning environment, including the learning management system.
  • Engage in early alert and other student success initiatives as requested.
  • Work with the Disability Services office to foster an inclusive learning environment for students needing accommodations.
  • Perform other duties as designated by the Chair.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in interior design or architecture and five (5) years of professional experience by employment start date.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student success.
  • Experience using industry standard software, including AutoCAD, Revit, and Adobe Suite.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's or terminal degree (M.A., M.F.A., M.Arch, Ph.D.) in interior design, architecture, or a related field of study.
  • Two or more years of teaching, teaching assistance, or industry experience in interior design, architecture, or a related field.
  • Evidence of potential for teaching excellence.
  • Demonstrated success working with diverse student populations.
  • Commitment to cultivating a work environment and student experience that embraces inclusion.
