About the position

The Lecturer for the Knowledge and Power course at Rutgers University is responsible for teaching a foundational 3.0 credit course in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. This role is essential in fostering an inclusive educational environment for new students at Douglass Residential College, focusing on issues of race, gender, sexuality, ability, and class. The position requires active engagement in course planning and participation in workshops aimed at promoting equity and inclusion.

Responsibilities

  • Teach one section of the 3.0 credit undergraduate course Knowledge and Power: Issues in Women's Leadership.
  • Hold class meetings at all scheduled times/dates.
  • Attend instructor training and required meetings and workshops.
  • Meet with and advise the assigned peer mentor as needed.
  • Meet with students enrolled in the course and maintain regular office hours.
  • Adhere to course, department, college, and university procedures and policies.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Women's and Gender Studies or a closely related field preferred.
  • Commitment to or experience in Women's and Gender Studies and the status of women and gender diverse individuals.
  • Demonstrated pedagogical experience in teaching practices focused on cultural exchange, community-building, equity, and inclusion.
  • Three years of experience in effective teaching, mentoring, community work, or related educational engagement.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in facilitating discussions on privilege, difference, discrimination, and equity.
  • Ability to foster inclusive awareness and build communities of belonging.
