About the position

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) is Wisconsin's second-largest university, recognized as an R1 research institution. The Department of Dance at UWM offers various programs, including BA in Dance, BFA in Performance and Choreography, and MFA in Dance. The department seeks local and regional applicants with expertise in dance technical practice to fill part-time openings for teaching a range of dance techniques and somatic courses. The teaching load will vary based on program needs, and responsibilities include maintaining office hours, collaborating with faculty, and participating in departmental activities.

Responsibilities

• Teach one or more three-credit courses in various dance forms including African Diaspora, Latin Diaspora, Hip Hop, Jazz, Tap, Flamenco, Mexican Folklorico, Gaga, Ballet, Modern/Postmodern, Pilates, Yoga, Alexander Technique, Tai Chi Chuan, or Capoeira.
• Maintain scheduled office hours for student support.
• Collaborate with departmental staff and faculty to maintain a vital curriculum.
• Foster a sense of community and support students' individual development.
• Participate in departmental activities, community outreach, recruitment, and advising students.

Requirements

• BA or BFA in Dance or related field, or equivalent professional experience (degree must be granted by date of hire).

Nice-to-haves

• MFA in Dance or related field.
• Teaching experience in Higher Education.
• Professional artistic experience in areas of expertise.
