About the position

The Legislative Oversight & Invest Analyst position at the Legislative Research Commission is a full-time, nonpartisan role focused on providing analytical support to the Legislative Oversight and Investigations Committee. The analyst will engage in research, data analysis, and report preparation to assist in evaluating state agency operations and functions. This role requires neutrality in a politically charged environment and involves collaboration with various stakeholders to produce comprehensive and accessible research materials.

Responsibilities

• Document all work done for reports.
• Use appropriate research, data, methods, and tools to produce material for program evaluation, research reports, and presentations.
• Assist in preparing for and conducting committee meetings, including preparing materials and reviewing minutes.
• Create research designs and plans and manage all or designated parts of research projects.
• Communicate with supervisor about agency policies and procedures.
• Travel for work-related duties and training.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor, master's, or Ph.D. in public policy or a related field.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of government auditing standards.
• Ability to research federal, state, and local laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods, including statistical principles and techniques.
• Ability to identify, compile, and analyze relevant data.
• Ability to use a variety of databases for legal research and analysis.
• Extensive knowledge of government and financial auditing standards and techniques.
• Extensive knowledge of accounting principles and practices.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in quantitative research.
• Familiarity with statistical software and techniques.
• Excellent meeting, interviewing, and note-taking skills.
