This is a full-time position with the Office of the Attorney General located in Pierre, SD. The Legal Administrative Assistant will provide essential administrative support to the attorneys within the office. The role involves performing secretarial and clerical duties that require familiarity with legal terminology, procedures, and documents. Responsibilities include typing, proofreading, and finalizing confidential and sensitive letters, memos, legal documents, and legal forms such as summons, complaints, subpoenas, briefs, warrants, and notices of hearings. The assistant will also be responsible for electronically filing legal documents in the South Dakota and District Courts, as well as the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals, utilizing each court's electronic filing system. Additionally, the position requires researching information from various sources to assist in the preparation of legal documents and forms. The ideal candidate for this position will possess a dependable, friendly, and approachable demeanor, demonstrating a positive attitude while conducting themselves professionally in both public and office environments. The candidate should be capable of working independently, managing tasks effectively without direct supervision, and maintaining focus on assignments to ensure accuracy and timely completion. Knowledge of office practices and procedures, along with excellent English and grammar skills, is essential for success in this role. Proficiency in typing and Microsoft Office products is also required, as well as the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with office personnel. Candidates must be able to pass a background investigation and are encouraged to submit a National Career Readiness Certificate if available, although it is not a requirement for consideration.
