This is a full-time position with the Office of the Attorney General in Pierre, South Dakota. The role of the Legal Administrative Assistant is crucial in providing administrative support to the attorneys within the office. The responsibilities include performing secretarial and clerical duties that require a solid understanding of legal terminology, procedures, and documents. The assistant will be tasked with typing, proofing, and finalizing various confidential and sensitive documents such as letters, memos, legal documents, and legal forms including summons, complaints, subpoenas, briefs, warrants, and notices of hearings. Additionally, the position involves electronically filing legal documents in the South Dakota and District Courts, as well as the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals, utilizing the respective electronic filing systems of each court. The ideal candidate for this position will possess a dependable, friendly, and approachable demeanor, demonstrating a positive attitude while conducting themselves professionally in both public and office environments. The ability to work independently is essential, as the candidate will need to manage tasks without direct supervision while maintaining accuracy and efficiency in their work. Knowledge of office practices and procedures, along with excellent English and grammar skills, is required. Proficiency in typing and Microsoft Office products is also necessary to fulfill the duties of this role effectively. Candidates must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with office personnel and demonstrate the ability to work independently on assignments. This position is exempt from the Civil Service Act and is eligible for Veterans' Preference as per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
