About the position

The Southern Environmental Law Center (SELC) is seeking a Legal Administrative Assistant to provide essential legal and administrative support to three Georgia Energy Attorneys in their Atlanta office. This full-time position plays a crucial role in enhancing the effectiveness of SELC's environmental advocacy efforts. The role includes a hybrid work model, allowing for remote work up to two days a week, and requires a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Responsibilities

  • Provides legal and administrative support to SELC attorneys, including submitting court filings in Administrative, State and Federal Courts.
  • Conducts substantial factual research utilizing various resources including internal records and government websites.
  • Analyzes and summarizes scientific research in support of SELC's legislative and regulatory agency work.
  • Assists with logistical and evidentiary preparations for judicial and administrative proceedings.
  • Maintains digital and physical files including pleadings, transcripts, and correspondence.
  • Provides general administrative support including scheduling meetings and booking travel.
  • Assists with PowerPoint presentations for both internal and external presentations.
  • Participates in and takes notes during conference calls and meetings as needed.
  • Communicates regularly with partner groups and may occasionally represent SELC in stakeholder meetings.
  • Assists in the collection and review of documents obtained through public records.
  • Assists with expert retainer agreements and tracking invoices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent mix of education and experience.
  • Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated organizational and administrative skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within teams.

Nice-to-haves

  • At least two years of legal assistant or paralegal experience.
  • Familiarity with environmental and/or legal research.
  • Knowledge of Georgia energy laws/policies.
