About the position

The Legal Assistant plays a crucial role in enhancing the efficiency of attorneys within our law firm by providing essential administrative support. The ideal candidate will be a professional individual who excels in both written and verbal communication, demonstrating a strong ability to work collaboratively within a team. Success in this position requires a keen attention to detail, effective time-management skills, and a solid understanding of legal procedures and terminology. Additionally, the candidate must be capable of handling confidential information with discretion and professionalism. In this role, the Legal Assistant will be responsible for a variety of tasks that support multiple lawyers at the firm. This includes editing and proofreading legal documents, maintaining the attorney's calendar by scheduling conferences, depositions, and meetings, and organizing all legal documents to ensure they are current and properly filed. The Legal Assistant will also be tasked with ensuring that all court documents are prepared and filed before deadlines, managing communications by answering emails and phone calls, and conducting research to authenticate important case information. Furthermore, the preparation of legal documents such as appeals, motions, and petitions will be a key responsibility of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to multiple lawyers at the firm.
  • Edit and proofread all legal documents; transcription experience is a plus.
  • Maintain attorney calendar by scheduling conferences, depositions, and meetings.
  • Organize all legal documents and ensure they are updated.
  • Ensure all court documents are in order and filed before deadlines.
  • Answer emails and phone calls, and when necessary, redirect calls.
  • Research and authenticate important case information.
  • Prepare legal documents including appeals, motions, and petitions.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree preferred; Bachelor's a plus.
  • 2-5 years of administrative experience in a law firm preferred.
  • Strong technology skills with demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Suite.
  • Experience with Federal filings is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Organized and resourceful with an excellent ability to show strong attention to detail, as well as strength in the area of proofreading.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Must be organized and able to multi-task.
  • Able to preserve confidentiality and exercise discretion.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in legal settings or law firms.
  • Familiarity with legal terminology and procedures.
