About the position

The Legal Assistant II - Assistant to the Program Director position at Catholic Charities of Oregon is a vital support role within the Immigration Legal Services department. This full-time position involves managing the Program Director's schedule, assisting with legal cases, and ensuring effective communication and administrative support. The role is designed to enhance the efficiency of the Program Director while contributing to the overall mission of providing essential services to vulnerable populations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Program Director's schedule and draft reports.
  • Identify and amend administrative policies related to legal services.
  • Draft correspondence on behalf of the Program Director.
  • Provide legal assistance in cases handled by the Program Director.
  • Assist in preparing applications for clients of Immigration Legal Services.
  • Manage a substantial and complex caseload alongside the Program Director.
  • Create and maintain documentation for data entry in an online database system.
  • Train staff members and volunteers on new policies and best practices.
  • Assist in tracking grant goals and preparing grant reports as assigned.
  • Support attorneys and accredited representatives in training and managing legal volunteers.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or equivalent lived and/or worked experience required.
  • 2 years of previous experience as a legal assistant, with at least 1 year in immigration legal services required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both Spanish and English, verbally and in writing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
