The City of Yakima is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Legal Assistant II for our Prosecution Division. This full-time position is essential in supporting our attorneys with various legal tasks, including managing case files, preparing legal documents, and performing procedural tasks. The ideal candidate will have a passion for criminal law and public service, and will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of the legal processes within the City Attorney's Office. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing, organizing, reviewing, and filing a variety of legal pleadings such as trial briefs, motions, orders, judgments, and subpoenas. You will maintain records and files of Municipal Court cases and appeals, ensuring that all necessary materials are secured for evidence. Additionally, you will interact with the public, defendants, victims, and attorneys, providing information and addressing inquiries regarding pending prosecution cases. Your ability to communicate effectively and professionally will be vital in this position. As a Legal Assistant II, you will also draft and process various legal forms and documents, ensuring they are completed accurately and within legally mandated time frames. You will be expected to work independently, demonstrating sound judgment and problem-solving skills while adhering to confidentiality standards.
