The Office of the District Attorney in Mecklenburg County is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Legal Assistant II. This is a time-limited, grant-funded full-time position, with funding expected to conclude on June 30, 2025. The successful candidate will provide essential support services to the office attorneys, which includes a variety of tasks such as legal document preparation, heavy typing, criminal case management, file preparation, answering telephone calls, and daily filing. The role requires a highly motivated self-starter with strong oral and written communication skills, as well as the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment. The Legal Assistant will be responsible for preparing legal documents and managing case files, ensuring that all necessary information is accurately recorded and maintained. This position also involves interacting with victims and witnesses, requiring the ability to interview individuals to gather pertinent information and coordinate their court appearances. The candidate must be adept at using Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, and should possess typing skills of 35-40 words per minute. The ability to handle a multi-line telephone system is also essential. In addition to technical skills, the candidate must demonstrate knowledge of the court system and procedures, legal terminology, and community resources available for victims and witnesses. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with law enforcement officers, officials from related agencies, and the general public is crucial. The ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and to manage stressful situations calmly is also required.
