About the position

Larzelere Picou Wells Simpson Lonero, LLC, a well-established insurance defense and coverage law firm located in Metairie, is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Legal Assistant with a focus on insurance defense. This full-time position is ideal for candidates with three to five years of litigation experience, particularly in insurance defense. The successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of tasks that support the attorneys in their daily operations, ensuring that all legal processes are handled efficiently and professionally. The Legal Assistant will play a crucial role in managing the flow of information within the firm. This includes answering incoming phone calls and emails, handling incoming and outgoing mail, and scanning correspondence, pleadings, and case documents to the shared computer network. The position requires excellent organizational skills to manage and maintain attorneys' calendars, including scheduling court appearances and deadlines. Additionally, the Legal Assistant will be responsible for opening and closing client matter files, maintaining and updating client matter inventories, and ensuring that all relevant case information is current. In this role, the Legal Assistant will also transcribe legal dictation, prepare draft correspondence, case reports, pleadings, motions, memoranda, discovery, and appellate briefs. Scheduling meetings, depositions, mediations, and other appointments will be part of the daily responsibilities. The position also involves managing the receipt and payment of incoming client matter invoices from litigation support vendors and experts, as well as submitting firm invoices to clients that require invoicing by email or fax. The Legal Assistant will electronically file pleadings in state, federal, and appellate courts and assist attorneys with deposition, mediation, and trial preparation. Finally, entering attorney time into the firm's time and billing software is a key responsibility of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Answering incoming phone calls and emails

Requirements

  • Three to five years of litigation/insurance defense experience
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Highly motivated and detail-oriented
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent typing, grammar, and proofreading skills
  • Ability to maintain strict client confidentiality
  • Comprehensive knowledge of legal terminology, court rules, and procedures
  • Familiarity with accessing PACER and navigating state and federal court websites
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and PDF editing software
