About the position

As a Legal Assistant (Management Analyst I), you will play a crucial role in supporting the Department of Justice's Executive Office for Immigration Review, specifically within the Houston, TX Immigration Court. This position is set in a fast-paced environment where you will be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks that require close interaction with the public, attorneys, and U.S. Immigration Judges. Your primary duties will involve managing case information, coordinating with various agencies, and handling court documents, schedules, and mail. You will also assist U.S. Immigration Judges during court proceedings, ensuring that all necessary documentation and support are provided in a timely manner. In this role, you will be expected to respond to inquiries and manage case information effectively. You will provide administrative assistance to U.S. Immigration Judges, court management, and support staff, which includes communicating with the Department of Homeland Security, Private Bar Attorneys, and other federal immigration agencies. Your responsibilities will also include answering and transferring telephone calls, reviewing and processing legal documents and correspondence, managing court calendars, preparing orders and hearing notices, sorting and distributing filings and mail, and assembling and maintaining Records of Proceedings (ROP). Excellent customer service is a key component of this position, as you will be interacting with various stakeholders in the immigration process. This position offers a non-negotiable hourly rate of $23.00 and is located at 1919 Smith Street, Houston, TX. The work schedule is Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, totaling 40 hours per week, subject to the operational needs of the court. Responsibilities

  • Respond to inquiries and manage case information
  • Provide administrative assistance to U.S. Immigration Judges, court management, and support staff

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience as an administrative assistant, paralegal, legal secretary, program assistant, customer service role, or related field
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs. and perform filing tasks
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Government Moderate Risk Public Trust Security Clearance
  • Successful completion of a CGI Background Investigation, including checks on criminal history, education, employment, credit, and driving records
