The Legal Assistant (Office Automation) position at the Executive Office for U.S. Attorneys and the Office of the U.S. Attorneys in Houston, TX, is a full-time, permanent role designed to support Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) by providing a variety of legal assistance and office support services. The selected candidate will receive formal and/or on-the-job training as needed, ensuring they are well-equipped to handle the responsibilities of the position. At the full performance level, the Legal Assistant will be responsible for examining, preparing, and processing a variety of technical legal documents, including complaints, motions, orders, answers, pleadings, subpoenas, and libels. The role also involves proofreading and cite-checking legal briefs, memoranda, and other legal documents to ensure accuracy and compliance with legal standards. Additionally, the Legal Assistant will assist attorneys in trial preparation by conducting non-complex research of litigation, statutes, regulations, and court cases, as well as assembling exhibits, affidavits, and other legal documents necessary for court proceedings. The position requires maintaining an organized calendar of assigned active cases, tracking filing, hearing, and trial dates, and scheduling conferences and interviews. The Legal Assistant will also be responsible for arranging travel by preparing itineraries and securing transportation and hotel reservations. The role demands proficiency in producing a variety of written documents and materials using a wide range of office software applications.
