About the position

San Jose immigration law firm founded in 1979 is seeking a full-time Legal Assistant/Paralegal to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for interviewing clients and preparing immigration-related petitions, applications, affidavits, and supporting documentation. This role requires a detail-oriented individual who can work independently in a fast-paced environment. The firm values strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently. The position offers a competitive salary based on experience and provides opportunities for professional growth within the firm. The working hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, with a total expected workload of 40 hours per week.

Responsibilities

• Interview clients to gather necessary information for immigration-related cases.
• Prepare immigration-related petitions, applications, affidavits, and supporting documentation.
• Maintain organized records and files for all client interactions and documentation.
• Communicate effectively with clients regarding their cases and any required information.
• Assist attorneys in preparing for hearings and other legal proceedings.

Requirements

• Fluency in Spanish is required.
• Bachelor's degree or paralegal certificate preferred.
• Strong word processing skills are essential.
• Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple cases effectively.
• Strong communication skills to interact with clients and colleagues.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Under 1 year of experience in a legal or paralegal role is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in immigration law is preferred but not required.
