About the position
The Vernon Law Firm is seeking an experienced Legal Assistant/Paralegal to provide essential support in various legal areas including estate planning, commercial law, business law, civil litigation, and real estate. This full-time position requires a motivated and detail-oriented individual to assist multiple attorneys in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, offering opportunities for professional growth.
Responsibilities
- Assist multiple attorneys
- Dictation
- Client intake including obtaining relevant and necessary information for conflict checks
- Open, maintain, scan, and organize legal files, documents, and databases
- Draft, proofread, and prepare correspondence and legal documents
- Calculate and calendar deadlines
- Scan, copy, fax, and email documents as needed
- Scan and convert physical files to electronic format
- Make appointments and maintain attorney calendar
- E-file and E-Record
- Notarize documents
- Communicate via telephone or in-person with clients, witnesses, court personnel, and other parties involved in legal matters
- Ensure compliance with legal procedures and deadlines.
Requirements
- High School Diploma Required, Bachelor's degree Preferred
- Notary Public Certification is required
- Previous experience working as a legal assistant/paralegal or in a similar role is required
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Typing speed of a minimum of 60 wpm
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize workload effectively
- Familiarity with legal terminology and procedures
- Proficiency in using computer software and legal document management systems
- Advanced knowledge of MS Word is required
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work alone as well as within a team
- Ability to climb stairs frequently
- Heavy lifting and moving of files and boxes is required.
