We are currently seeking an experienced Paralegal / Law Firm Assistant to join our team, specifically to manage our probate practice. This role is ideal for individuals with a strong background in probate law who enjoy working independently and are looking for a position that offers flexibility and growth opportunities. The successful candidate will oversee and manage probate cases under the guidance of the lead attorney, handling day-to-day tasks related to probate matters, including filing documents, speaking with clients, preparing court pleadings, and tracking case progress. As a primary point of contact for clients, the paralegal will explain the probate process in simple terms, manage client expectations regarding timelines, and address client inquiries with professionalism and empathy. The role also involves drafting and reviewing legal documents related to probate and estate planning, providing administrative support to the lead attorney, and ensuring adherence to established procedures and protocols to maintain accuracy and compliance with legal requirements. The ideal candidate will possess excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Strong communication skills are essential, particularly in client interactions. The position requires the ability to work independently and follow step-by-step processes with minimal supervision. Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage probate cases under the guidance of the lead attorney.
  • Handle day-to-day tasks related to probate matters, including filing documents, speaking with clients, preparing court pleadings, and tracking case progress.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, explaining the probate process in simple terms and managing client expectations regarding timelines.
  • Draft and review legal documents related to probate and estate planning, including wills, trusts, and other estate-related documents.
  • Provide administrative support to the lead attorney, including scheduling meetings, managing deadlines, and maintaining organized case files.
  • Follow established procedures and protocols to ensure accuracy and compliance with legal requirements.
  • Work closely with other team members, including potentially managing junior staff or assistants if needed.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in probate law is required.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, particularly in client interactions.
  • Ability to work independently and manage tasks efficiently.
  • A high comfort level on the computer, familiarity with wealth counsel / elder counsel software is a plus.
  • Practical experience in probate law is valued more than formal education or certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in estate planning is a plus but not required.
  • A desire or willingness to manage others is a plus.
  • Someone invigorated by learning new ways to do things with a mindset of consistent improvement would be highly valued.
