About the position

We are seeking an experienced Insurance Defense Litigation Paralegal to join our defense firm in Buffalo, NY. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing a high volume of cases. This role requires a strong understanding of insurance defense litigation and the ability to work collaboratively with attorneys and other legal staff to ensure efficient case handling.

Responsibilities

  • Assist attorneys in all phases of insurance defense litigation, from initial case intake to trial preparation.
  • Draft, review, and finalize legal documents, including pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and responses.
  • Conduct legal research to support case strategy and motions.
  • Manage and organize case files, including electronic document management and filing.
  • Coordinate and manage discovery processes, including the collection, review, and production of documents.
  • Prepare deposition summaries, trial binders, and exhibit lists.
  • Communicate with clients, witnesses, and experts to gather information and schedule depositions, hearings, and meetings.
  • Track and manage deadlines to ensure all filings and tasks are completed in a timely manner.
  • Assist in the preparation for trials, including coordinating witness appearances and managing trial exhibits.
  • Meet a billable hour requirement of 1,350 hours per year.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or paralegal certificate required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a litigation paralegal, with a focus on insurance defense.
  • Proficiency in legal research tools, such as Westlaw or LexisNexis.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and legal case management software.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Microsoft Office for at least 1 year.
