About the position

The Legal Assistant / Paralegal at Synovus will provide a broad range of administrative and clerical support for one or more attorneys under general supervision. This role is essential in ensuring the smooth operation of the legal department by handling various tasks that contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of legal processes. The Legal Assistant will be responsible for drafting letters and memos, setting up conference calls, coordinating calendars and meetings, processing invoices and expense reports, and assisting with project management and the contract review process. Additionally, the role includes general office management tasks that are crucial for maintaining an organized work environment. In this position, the Legal Assistant will also assist with administrative and organizational tasks related to the closings of loan sale transactions. This includes document management, recording certain deeds and real estate liens, and preparing various legal documents and filings. The Legal Assistant will be expected to organize, maintain, and manage all files related to various transactions and matters, ensuring that all documentation is accurate and readily accessible. The role requires interaction with senior leadership and members of various teams and divisions within the company. The Legal Assistant must address all questions, inquiries, and concerns in an immediate and responsive manner, demonstrating strong communication skills. Each team member is expected to be aware of risk within their functional area, which includes observing all policies, procedures, laws, regulations, and risk limits specific to their role. The Legal Assistant should raise and report known or suspected violations to the appropriate company authority in a timely fashion. Other related duties may be assigned as required, and the position is designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative and clerical support to attorneys, including drafting letters and memos.

Requirements

  • Completion of High School or GED equivalent.
  • Five (5) years of experience in an administrative support role within a legal department or law office.
  • Knowledge of basic legal processes in litigation, real estate transactions, and loan closings.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to facilitate information logically.
  • Detail-oriented and project-oriented with the ability to work with little direct supervision.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associates Degree or completion of an undergraduate degree program.
  • Experience supporting a legal office or managing a complex office.
