About the position

To perform complex technical legal duties within the District Attorney's office and to work in support of the District Attorney's office mission to protect the community and make the criminal justice system better.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, compose, review, and file a variety of documents including motions, pleadings, memoranda, correspondence, and warrant applications.
  • Confirm documents relevant to motions and legal briefs are filed within appropriate time limits.
  • Ensure all procedures are followed and relevant legal documents are prepared.
  • Work with law enforcement partners to gather information and documentation in relation to arrest warrants.
  • Develop a working relationship with court clerks for purposes of filing cases and quality assurance.
  • Review cases for essential witnesses and coordinate service of subpoenas.
  • Maintain confidential records, and process requests for information according to District Attorney's Office policies.
  • Prepare reports and draft correspondence as needed.
  • Work assignments are performed within an established framework under general instructions but require simultaneous coordination of assigned functions or projects in various stages of completion.
  • Provide the public with general explanatory information by answering questions and resolving problems without giving legal advice.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of legal terminology and legal documentation formats sufficient to be able to read, interpret, and prepare legal documents.
  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Strong commitment to working with a team and demonstrated ability to work effectively with other employees, supervisors, and the public.
  • Ability to work with attorneys and provide a high-quality work product to assist them in successfully performance of their responsibilities in prosecuting cases.
  • Knowledge of office practices and procedures sufficient to be able to organize and maintain files, records, and schedules and to obtain and/or relay information and process documents in a timely manner.
  • Skill in examining documents for correctness, completeness, and accuracy.
  • Skill in prioritizing, coordinating and scheduling work to allow for efficient and effective completion of work assignments.
  • Must have ability to work in a standard office environment with basic knowledge of Microsoft Office suite programs: MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook, as well as the ability to master internal District Attorney legal software, such as ACTION.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of legal support experience in a legal office or any equivalent combination of experience or education that satisfy the requirements of the job.
  • Type 60-70 w.p.m. with accuracy.

  • Ability to lift a maximum of 40 pounds; occasional lifting, carrying, walking, and standing; frequent hand/eye coordination to operate computer keyboard and office equipment; vision for reading, recording and interpreting information; speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and members of the public.
