About the position

The Legal Assistant position at our law firm, which specializes in immigration and family law, is a vital role that requires a bilingual individual fluent in both English and Spanish. This position is based in Northern Manhattan and involves a variety of responsibilities centered around assisting clients with their immigration cases. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented and possess strong organizational skills, as they will be responsible for preparing numerous USCIS forms, including but not limited to I-130, I-130A, I-485, I-765, I-751, N-400, N-600, I-601A, I-589, I-539, and I-360. The role also includes direct interaction with Spanish-speaking clients, necessitating excellent communication skills to effectively address their needs and concerns. In addition to form preparation, the Legal Assistant will gather necessary documents, communicate with clients regarding outstanding evidence, and translate documents from Spanish to English. The position requires the ability to prepare affidavits and other evidence in support of various immigration cases, including hardship claims, VAWA petitions, and asylum requests. The candidate must be able to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks efficiently, and maintain a professional demeanor at all times. This role is essential in ensuring that our clients receive the best possible support throughout their legal journey, and it requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and task management.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of USCIS forms including I-130, I-130A, I-485, I-765, I-751, N-400, N-600, I-601A, I-589, I-539, and I-360.
  • Meeting with Spanish-speaking clients and answering calls related to cases.
  • Gathering necessary documents for immigration cases.
  • Communicating and following up for outstanding documents and evidence.
  • Translating documents from Spanish to English.
  • Preparing evidence in support of cases, including hardship affidavits, VAWA petitions, and asylum requests.
  • Handling EOIR requests.

Requirements

  • Bilingual in written and spoken English and Spanish.

Benefits

  • Full-time employment with a competitive salary range of $40,000 to $50,000 per year.
