About the position

The City of Fort Worth is seeking a dedicated Legal Assistant to join the City Attorney's Office, a team committed to providing exceptional legal services and quality customer service to the residents of Fort Worth. This position plays a crucial role in supporting the legal team by preparing legal documents, maintaining files, and ensuring that all legal processes are handled efficiently and effectively. The Legal Assistant will be involved in various tasks that require attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively within a fast-paced environment. As a Legal Assistant, you will be responsible for drafting legal documents and correspondence, including answers, discovery responses, briefs, and other litigation pleadings. You will also handle Public Information Requests by drafting letter briefs and redacting documents as necessary. Maintaining both physical and electronic files is essential, as is the ability to calculate and track deadlines accurately. Additionally, you will arrange and confirm appointments, meetings, depositions, hearings, and court settings, ensuring that all parties are informed and prepared. The role requires proof-reading and reviewing various legal documents such as contracts, ordinances, resolutions, motions, and briefs to ensure accuracy and compliance with legal standards. You will also be responsible for general administrative tasks, including copying, scanning, answering telephones, and providing assistance to the public and city staff. This position is integral to the operations of the City Attorney's Office, and the successful candidate will contribute to the office's goal of being recognized for exemplary professionalism and ethical behavior.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing legal documents and correspondence.
  • Drafting answers, discovery responses, briefs, appendices, and other litigation pleadings.
  • Drafting letter briefs, correspondence, and redacting documents in response to Public Information Requests.
  • Maintaining physical and electronic files.
  • Calculating and tracking deadlines.
  • Arranging, scheduling, and confirming appointments, meetings, depositions, hearings, and court settings.
  • Proof-reading/reviewing contracts, ordinances, resolutions, motions, briefs and other legal documents.
  • Copying, scanning, answering telephones, and providing assistance to the general public and city staff.

Requirements

  • Associate degree from an accredited college with major course work in Business Administration, Public Administration, Office Administration, or related field.
  • Two (2) years of increasingly responsible Legal Assistant experience.
