About the position

McConnaughhay, Coonrod, Pope, Weaver, & Stern, P.A. is seeking a detail-oriented Lead Legal Assistant to join our team in Fort Lauderdale, FL. The ideal candidate will provide essential administrative support to lawyers and assist in maintaining an efficient workflow within the legal department. This position serves as the lead legal assistant for the assigned branch office, providing leadership and oversight of staff functions in conjunction with the managing attorney and the Human Resources Department. The role involves a variety of clerical and administrative duties incidental to the operation of the office, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and accurately. The Lead Legal Assistant will oversee and perform specialized clerical work, including typing, filing, and general legal secretarial duties. This includes transcribing correspondence and various types of legal documents from dictating equipment. The candidate will maintain electronic and paper calendars for assigned attorneys, scheduling legal events such as court dates, hearings, depositions, and mediations with courts and other involved parties. Additionally, the role requires data input of attorney time entries for billing statements, utilizing computer programs and document management systems to enhance job performance. The successful candidate will also be responsible for organizing and maintaining case files, ensuring that all documentation is easily accessible and up to date. Responsibilities

  • Serve as lead legal assistant for assigned branch office.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or its equivalent.
  • 4 years of office experience, with 2 years in an administrative/supervisory capacity.
  • Prior legal secretarial experience required.
  • Workers' compensation/insurance defense experience highly preferred.
  • Must be highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to multi-task effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills required.
  • Strong team building and conflict resolution skills.
  • Customer service skills are essential.

Nice-to-haves
