About the position

McLaren Health Care is seeking a dedicated Legal Assistant to support the day-to-day functions and operations of its legal department. This role is crucial in maintaining an efficient and high-functioning legal team, ensuring that all administrative duties are performed effectively. The Legal Assistant will be responsible for managing assigned calendars, scheduling appointments, and handling incoming calls and correspondence. This position requires a proactive approach to drafting, reviewing, and editing various legal documents, including emails, formal letters, memoranda, contracts, and other routine filings. In addition to document management, the Legal Assistant will develop and maintain current contract templates and other standard legal documents in a centralized electronic database. The role also involves preparing PowerPoint presentations and other educational materials as requested, as well as generating reports and work plans. The Legal Assistant will organize and maintain legal department files and corporate documents, ensuring that all information is easily accessible. Coordination with outside counsel is also a key responsibility, as the Legal Assistant will assemble and distribute information related to litigation, investigations, and other legal matters. The ideal candidate will be able to assume responsibility for special projects as assigned and perform other related duties as required. This position is full-time and operates during standard business hours, with no weekend work required.

Responsibilities

  • Manages assigned calendars and independently schedules appointments.
  • Answers and screens incoming calls and correspondence and responds independently when appropriate.
  • Drafts, reviews and edits documents and correspondence, including emails, formal letters, memoranda, contracts and other routine legal documents and filings.
  • Develops and maintains current contract templates and other standard legal documents and resources in a centralized electronic database.
  • Prepares PowerPoint presentations and other educational materials as requested.
  • Prepares reports, work plans and other complex documents as requested.
  • Organizes and maintains legal department files and corporate documents in a centralized electronic database.
  • Coordinates with outside counsel and assembles and distributes information and documents related to litigation, investigations and other legal matters.
  • Assumes responsibility for coordinating and/or participating in special projects as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Three years experience in a legal or other professional office or corporate environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associates degree in paralegal studies or a related field.
  • One year significant project and document management experience.
  • One year previous health care related job experience.
