About the position

A law firm located on K Street NW in Washington DC is seeking a dedicated Legal Assistant to support various tasks essential to the firm's operations. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth functioning of legal processes and will be responsible for a wide range of duties that contribute to the overall efficiency of the firm. This position requires a proactive individual who can manage multiple tasks effectively while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. The Legal Assistant will be involved in quality control for all matters, ensuring that all documentation and processes meet the firm's standards. Key responsibilities include calendaring and scheduling appointments, responding to inquiries from clients and colleagues, and following up on accounts payable and receivable. The role also involves conducting legal research on various cases and gathering pertinent legal information to support ongoing legal matters. In addition to research, the Legal Assistant will interpret laws, rulings, and regulations as they pertain to legal documents. This includes compiling, proofreading, and editing drafts of contracts, leases, licenses, policies, and other legal documents. The candidate will monitor, study, and develop written summaries of proposed and enacted legislation, regulations, court decisions, industry guidelines, and trade journals to keep the firm informed of relevant changes in the legal landscape. Assisting with case preparation is another critical aspect of this role, which includes preparing opening and closing arguments and aiding in court motions or pleadings. Daily record-keeping is essential, involving both electronic and physical filing of caseloads. The Legal Assistant will analyze and summarize documents, assist with the administration and management of workflow, and locate and interview witnesses as needed. General administrative duties, such as answering correspondence and taking telephone calls, will also be part of the responsibilities.
