About the position

We are seeking a dedicated Legal Assistant to join our team at Smith, Ball, Baez & Prather Florida Injury Lawyers. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive administrative support to three associate attorneys and must have a minimum of five years of experience as a legal assistant specifically in the personal injury field. This position requires working in the office, as no hybrid or remote work options will be considered. The Legal Assistant will play a crucial role in managing the attorneys' calendars, scheduling and confirming depositions, hearings, mediations, and meetings, while also monitoring important deadlines. In addition to calendar management, the Legal Assistant will be responsible for creating various legal documents such as notices, motions, summonses, subpoenas, and discovery requests. E-filing documents with the court and ensuring proper routing of these documents is also a key responsibility. The role involves drafting correspondence to clients, experts, defense attorneys, witnesses, and other relevant parties, as well as proofreading documents for grammatical, spelling, and formatting errors. The Legal Assistant will also manage transcripts, print and associate case correspondence, input case costs, assist with trial preparation, open new files, and handle payments to clients, medical providers, referring attorneys, and lien holders. The ideal candidate will possess strong adaptability, customer service skills, attention to detail, effective verbal and written communication abilities, and a respect for confidentiality. The role requires the ability to work independently and collaboratively, prioritize tasks effectively, and demonstrate sound judgment and decision-making skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and legal case management software is essential, along with a solid understanding of personal injury legal terms and case flow. The position is full-time, with expected hours of 40 per week, and offers a competitive pay range of $28.50 to $39.50 per hour.

Responsibilities

  • Manage attorney's calendar including scheduling and confirming depositions, hearings, mediations, and meetings & monitoring deadlines.
  • Create notices, motions, summonses, subpoenas, and discovery documents.
  • E-file documents with the court and route the documents as needed.
  • Draft letters to clients, experts, defense, witnesses, and others as needed.
  • Proofread documents for grammatical, spelling, and format errors.
  • Request and manage transcripts as needed.
  • Print and case-associate correspondence, court filings, and discovery documents.
  • Input case costs.
  • Assist with trial preparation.
  • Open new files.
  • Send payments to clients, medical providers, referring attorneys, lien holders, etc.

Requirements

  • Minimum of at least 5 years of experience as a personal injury legal assistant.
  • Experience with legal case management software.
  • Knowledge of law practices as they pertain to personal injury.
  • In-depth working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.

Nice-to-haves
