About the position

The Legal Assistant at Rausch Sturm LLP plays a crucial role in supporting the litigation process within the Michigan office, while being based in the Minnesota office. This full office position requires a proactive individual who can manage multiple tasks effectively and ensure that all legal documentation is prepared and filed accurately and timely. The Legal Assistant will report directly to the State Managing Attorney or their designee, making it essential to maintain clear communication and collaboration with various teams and attorneys involved in the litigation process. Key responsibilities include preparing coverage hearing packets for both internal attorneys and outside counsel, entering hearing results, and updating case statuses in the system. The Legal Assistant will also work closely with the Process Team and Suit Team to investigate any errors that may arise during the litigation process. A significant part of the role involves ensuring that all judgment and post-service related documents are prepared correctly and filed on time, which requires a strong understanding of legal terminology and procedures. Attention to detail is paramount, as the Legal Assistant will be responsible for proofreading dismissals and other legal documents to ensure compliance with formatting and criteria. Daily mail processing and updating information in the collection software system are also part of the job, along with any special projects or tasks assigned by the attorneys. This position is ideal for someone who is results-driven, customer-focused, and possesses a strong work ethic.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares coverage hearing packets for both Rausch Sturm attorneys and outside counsel.
  • Enters hearing results and updates accounts with the status of each case.
  • Works cross-functionally with Process Team/Suit Team to investigate errors.
  • Works with state level attorneys to ensure all judgment and post-service related documents are prepared accurately and filed timely.
  • Proofreads all dismissals and any other documents assigned for preparation to ensure all formatting and criteria are correct.
  • Processes mail daily and ensures all information received is updated properly in the collection software system.
  • Handles all other special projects or tasks as requested by the attorneys.

Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma (or GED).
  • Prefer one to three years of experience and familiarity with legal terminology and CLS.
  • Prefer to have a MN Notary license.
  • Experience in the Microsoft Suite of products is required.
  • Being results-driven and customer-focused are requirements of the position.
  • Strong attention to detail while providing a high-quality work result is critical.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Microsoft Office: 3 years (Preferred)
