About the position

Looking for a Temporary Legal Assistant to work in a Workers' Compensation Division. This is a 6-month full-time assignment, Monday - Friday, with an hourly rate of $22.00. The Legal Assistant will work closely with Workers' Compensation attorneys and claims examiners, providing essential support in various legal processes. The role involves directing support staff to schedule depositions and applicants' medical examinations, conducting research on systems such as Westlaw, rating medical reports, and making settlement recommendations. Additionally, the Legal Assistant will attend Appeals Board hearings as necessary, screen awards from the Appeals Board to determine whether to appeal or process for payment, and review new and existing claims for eligibility and potential fraud. Other duties may be assigned as needed, requiring a proactive and detail-oriented approach to legal assistance.

Responsibilities

• Provide direction to support staff to schedule depositions and medical examinations.
• Conduct research on Westlaw and other legal systems.
• Rate medical reports and make settlement recommendations.
• Attend Appeals Board hearings as necessary.
• Screen awards from the Appeals Board to determine whether to appeal or process for payment.
• Review new and existing claims for eligibility and potential fraud.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Workers' Compensation experience.
• At least six months of legal administrative experience.
• Thorough knowledge of legal procedures and terminology.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment in analyzing, interpreting, and reviewing legal documents.
• Self-motivated and quick learner.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Strong interpersonal skills to work well with other employees and the public.
